American Early 19th Century Painted Washstand with Lower Shelf, Drawer and Cover
About the Item
American New England painted and decorated bowfront pine washstand with removable painted cover. The cover conceals holes which held a washbowl and glasses or cups. Below the washbowl level is a shelf and drawer with neoclassical curving side supports for the top surface. The legs are turned and the washstand area is encircled by a shaped gallery with a narrow shelf. The mustard yellow ground and the decorative flourishes have a modest amount of sympathetic wear. Circa 1830.
