Louis XVI Style Pair of French Wall Sconces in Gilt Bronze

About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Particular and original pair of wall lamps, made in Louis XVI style between 1920 and 1923 in a foundry near Villedieu-les-Poeles (France), a small town on the English Channel, famous for its foundries of copper, bronze, tin, and brass; the skilled artisans were inspired by the models of the Caffièri family, famous bronze workers and sculptors of Italian origin who were very active and appreciated in France between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries; the sober and calibrated decorations (cords and tassels), present on the sconces, draw on the classical repertoire, in particular, the central one recalls the theme of love with Cupid's weapons (torches, quivers, and love knots); the sconces have two points of light each with fake candles placed at the end of two arms in the form of braided cord; the electrical wires are not visible as they pass inside the arms themselves; the two objects were made with a masterful and elaborate bronze fusion and then was made a gilding finish. The electrical system is working but the wiring is European, the compatibility of the voltage in other countries must always be checked by an electrician before use.
