Austrian Orientalist Bronze Model Lamp by Anton Chotka

About the Item

Austrian Orientalist bronze model lamp by Anton Chotka. This charming cold-painted bronze lamp depicts a busy scene of an open plan coffee shop within an Islamic style building, which features a dome ceiling, crescent moon finials and Moorish archways. Behind these columned archways, several figures are depicted drinking coffee, smoking huqqa pipes and are surrounded by various pots, rugs and an octagonal table. Crafted in exceptional detail with a rich color palette, this lamp is characteristic of the works of Anton Chotka, a renowned producer of cold-painted bronze lamps and figurines in 19th and early 20th century Vienna. The lamp is signed ‘Chotka’ to the base.

  • Orientalist Austrian Cold Painted Bronze Lamp w/ 2 Figures Inside a Small Room
    By Bergmann Foundry
    Located in Petaluma, CA
This charming little scene depicted here is so colorful and detailed that it could only have been executed by the premier maker of these bronzes, Franz Bergmann. It does bear his signature with the letter "B" inside an urn. What makes this so extra special is its diminutive size. Normally these smaller examples lack the quality of work that is seen here. The fact that it is a lamp is always a bonus and lit up at night in your home can only bring warmth and joy to the owner. The curtain is so crisply cast that it almost looks like fabric. It's all done with such attention to detail. A great example of an antique Vienna bronze lamp.
