About the Item

Onyx Mirrors Although there are a few other places in the world where the semi-precious stone Onyx exist, we found our collection in Mexico. A Bit of Information on the Semi-Precious Stone Onyx. While it is often thought of as the black gemstone capable of transforming negative energy in positive energy, onyx is in fact a multicolor stone resulting from the metamorphism of limestone rich in Magnesium and Calcium, a process that takes thousands of years. During these years, climate change, natural disasters and wildlife have contributed to the various colors of each layer of sediments. In its primary stage, the rock does not reveal its beauty. However, once it is cut, carved, shaped and polished, the outcome is breathtaking. There is simply no designer like Mother Earth herself. We have been very grateful to visit two workshops where the stones are sliced, cut, carved, or otherwise shaped into their final forms. Watching these artisans covered in thick layers of dust, handling these blocks of stone was truly fascinating. A Word About the Onyx Mirrors Most our onyx mirrors can be lit inside of the mirror. Without light, they are great elements of designs, functional and decorative. But a large mirror lit in the middle of the night as the only light in a room (Hallway for instance) is the reminder that we are all connected to this planet one way or another. The light is more than pleasing, it is relaxing, grounding. All mirrors are made from many smaller elements perfectly cut and glued together. Artisans add their own designs.
