French Art Deco Runner Carpet, c. 1930

About the Item

In the early 20th century, major cities across the world were swept up in the Art Deco movement, which brought a completely new perspective to art, architecture, and design. The Deco aesthetic is clear in this vintage one-of-a-kind French runner carpet recently acquired from an esteemed Chicago collector. Knotted of vegetable-dyed wool, this gorgeous runner carpet is a celebration of color and form. A central oblong medallion encloses stylized floral motifs, rendered in a palette of blues and yellows. Cloud-like bands of color radiate from the center with soft, curving lines, suggestive of Art Nouveau influences. Freeform and upbeat, the abstract design of this plush carpet enlivens any interior. From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer. Carpet has been professionally restored to color-correct spots of discoloration.
