Bauhaus, Tubular Steel Cantilever Chairs Pair, Mauser Werke, Germany, circa 1932

About the Item

This innovative tubular steel cantilever chair model RS 7, made from a single continuous line, creates in comparison with the classical one, a 'Double-Freischwinger'. Presented in the 'Mauser-Stahlrohr-Clubmöbel' catalogue from 1934 together with other five models, were subject of a legal process launched in 1936 by Mies van der Rohe. This process, on the basis of the supposed infringement of his 1927 cantilever chair patent, lasted eight years. The original upholstery shows traces of age. If a new fabric upholstery is needed, we can provide this service with different leather or fabric qualities of choice. Lit.: A. von Vegesack, 'Deutsche Stahlrohrmöbel', München 1986, p. 140; O. Mácel, 'Der Freischwinger, vom Avantgardeentwurf zur Ware', delft 1992, pp. 118-119; O. Mácel, S. Woertman, C. van Wijk, 'Chairs, The delft Collection', Rotterdam 2008, pp. 25-25.
