Matched Pair Modernist Jean Prouve Style Plywood Arm Chairs by Brunswick

About the Item

Modern molded maple plywood and steel tube armchairs by Brunswick from the 1950's. This is a wonderful example of how cutting edge mid century modern design made its way into post-war American institutions. This uncommon model is similar to the more prevalent Brunswick plywood school chairs but was made for adult use and was commonly found in public institutions and later in bowling alleys alongside Brunswick's bowling alley equipment. The sturdy steel tube frame holds the four pieces of molded 7-ply maple in place with unique rivet-like fasteners and sits on rubber feet with steel disks. The piece has been left completely original and is in good condition with light wear consistent of age and public use seen in mostly in the legs and a couple of light scratches to the rear. Not only is this chair very comfortable, it looks just as good as it feels. There is no angle from which it is not a visually commanding. This would make for an excellent addition to any modern living room, office, or den. Dimensions: 30.75" tall - 27" wide - 21" deep - 17" seat height.
