Black Forest Carve Oak Bobbin Hall Chair Depicting Two Friends Hugging Scrooge

About the Item

We are delighted to offer this very rare circa 1870 Black Forest carved oak hall chair with Bobbin turned legs and backrest depicting men hugging possibly Ebenezer Scrooge An attractive and well made piece, very decorative, ideally suited as an occasional chair. The backrest is quite a tour de force in carving, its beautifully sculpted and such a warm and welcoming feeling. I think its Ebenezer Scrooge as one chap is in his night cloths and the other looks to be either drunk or a beggar perhaps, I can’t say for sure but it certainly has a Christmas Carol feel to it The legs are Victorian Bobbin turned, very highly desirable and highly collectable on any seating We have deep cleaned hand condition waxed and hand polished it from top to bottom Dimensions: Height:- 100cm Width:- 54.5cm Depth:- 52.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.

The seat back is particularly intricate, with a combination of straight timbers combined with vine motif. Centered is an oval plaque with inlaid saw-tooth border around an Alpine Horn...
