Set of Four Regency Mahogany and Ebony Armorial Hall Chairs
About the Item
Stunning set of four Regency period mahogany and ebony inlaid armorial hall chairs, possibly attributable to Marsh and Tatham. The backs are decorated with anthemions and with the arms of the Sebright family.
Provenance: Sir John Saunders Sebright, 7th Baronet (1767-1846) and thence by descent at Beechwood Park, Flamstead, Hertfordshire. The chairs are shown in situ in the hall at Beechwood Park in a 1938 "Country Life" magazine photo.
Marsh and Tatham were leading Mayfair cabinet-makers and interior decorators (1775-1818) on Mount Street in London. They carried out major commissions for the Prince of Wales at Brighton Pavilion and at Carlton House.
