French Wooden Barley Twist Stool with Upholstered Seat, Late 19th Century
About the Item
A French barley twist leg stool from the late 19th century. This French stool features four light brown barley twist legs supporting a simple skirt and a high cushion. The Barley twist style, while very popular in 19th century Europe actually originates from the Levant as an architectural style known as Solomonic columns, which were the circular columns thought to have supported King Solomon’s Temple. While the beautiful legs of this French stool circa 1890 might be styled after a colossus, they need only support the feet of the weary. The cushion on this stool has been covered in white cotton but could easily be reupholstered to match any room.
