About the Item
Introducing Treasures of Decay Glass Edition, a limited edition of solid wood stumps sculpted by the forces of nature and time. In this body of work, master craftsman Florian Roeper, stays true to his philosophy of letting the material- in this case, cross sections of native California logs- guide the design process. It took five years to season and dries these stumps.
"I dislike rustic and woodsy looks, so I specifically chose the finishes to reflect a contemporary and clean aesthetic without having to give up the organic nature of the piece", Roeper says. A glossy, dark espresso tint contrasted with bright copper leaf exudes an air of elegance and sophistication, creating a focal point on the hollowed out core of the tree. The bronzed glass cube launches this piece into the conceptual realm of super cutting edge design- furniture as art.

Studio Roeper
Studio Roeper is a California artisan studio dedicated to the creation of finely crafted luxury furniture for private residences, boutique hotels, design connoisseurs and art collectors around the world. Established by Florian Roeper in 2003, Studio Roeper maintains a flagship showroom in San Francisco’s Design District, as well as a boutique workshop in Alameda, CA. Born in Germany and a first-generation immigrant to California, Roeper draws inspiration from his multicultural background as well as from the crafts-oriented movements of Art Deco, Biedermeier and Japonisme. Having graduated with a degree in furniture design and sculpture, Roeper seeks to integrate his signature metal patinas and locally-sourced hardwoods into a design language of integrity and sophistication. Nearly all of the lumber used in the production of the furniture collection is sourced, milled and seasoned in-house at the Studio Roeper sawmill. Private individuals and interior designers who aspire to award spaces with an artistic and luxurious touch collaborate with the studio for unique custom made pieces. Studio Roeper has been honored by commissions from clients including Louis Vuitton, Four Seasons Hotels, Peter Marino Architect, Magni Design as well as major public figures and private collectors.
