"Sunset Eyes" Pair Handcrafted Knit/Crochet Multicolour Textile Wall Hanging

Paris Essex is a partnership between Essex girl, Carolyn Clewer and Parisienne, Tiphaine de Lussy. Creative collaboration between the two knit and textiles specialists began when they met at the Royal College of Art, London and they have been creating textile art pieces as Paris Essex since 2015. The artists create each piece individually, revisiting the craft and clichés of knitting and crochet, working with combinations of hand and domestic machine techniques. They share a visual language and are drawn to the materials, processes and pace of fashion. They work in a space where distinctions between craft, design, fine art, and low culture are blurred and of equal worth. A Paris Essex "Crazy Blanket" represents a creative dialogue between Clewer and de Lussy; typically beginning by working separately using crochet and knit, then passing pieces back and forth, building one off pieces using luxurious and vibrant blends of wool , mohair and speciality yarns. Pieces are created like collages or paintings, mixing colours and textures with yarns and technical processes. Paris Essex recent work has been exhibited in Los Angeles, New York, London , Margate, Barcelona, Lithuania and China, participated in fashion shows in Milan and Paris, designed for Dutch homeware firm ‘Kitsch Kitchen’ and collaborated with the global fashion software company ‘Unmade’, the British heritage men’s label ‘Wolsey’ and Australian fashion brand ‘Romance Was Born’.
