"Cherry Maurice Chevalier": In 1935, Roger Valerio designed a poster N 3 famous for the cherry brandy that iconic French celebrity heart throb Maurice Chevalier launched under his name., printed as a large lithographic poster by Devambez, Paris CUSTOM FRAMED IN JANUARY 2020 Roger de Valerio, whose real name Roger Laviron, (born in Lille in 1886 , died in 1951 ) is a French designer, poster designer and painter who is more particularly known for his advertising posters. Frame size: 69 1/2 H x 53 3/8 x 1 1/8 Image size: 58 1/2 H x 42 3/4 Roger de Valerio (1886-1951) Roger de Valerio studied architecture at the School of Fine Arts in Paris . From 1911-1914 he worked as artistic director for the newspaper Le Matin. From 1917-1924, he joined the music publisher Salabert for which he produced more than 2,000 covers. In 1926 he was artistic advisor at Devambez for whom he produced some superb posters, then in 1932 he took over the management of the newspaper Le Rire. From 1936-1940 he is associate director of Perceval editions. In 1933 he taught at the technical school of publicity. In 1940, he decided to retire to Belle-Île-en-Mer to devote himself to painting (especially nudes and flowers), then to illustration of books. He produced 19 engravings for Alfred Jarry 's Surmâle. In 1951 he illustrated The Lion and the Hen by Sacha Guitry in the edition of Raoul Solar (wood engraving produced by Henri Jadoux N 1). For the review L'Art vivant, October 1926, he declares "The first quality of a poster is to be seen and read [...]. All means are good, the end justifies the means”.
