Beautiful 1950s Densely Beaded Black Silk Evening Coat

About

This is a beautiful coat with very fine workmanship and beautiful construction. The black makes it is appropriate for just about any occasion and the cut is simple and sleek. It is made from a fine and heavy black silk and the cut is almost severe with its simple chic lines. The sleeves end just above the wrist and there is no collar or visible closures on the coat, rather it closes with a simple, and hidden, line of hook & eye down the front. The keeps the line form any distraction and highlights just how perfectly the beaded bands at the waist and hem line up where they meet at the front. The dense hand-done bead work is what makes this coat truly special. A heavy application of bead work circles each cuff, the hem and is set in a thick panel that circles the waist. The beads are glossy black, glass tube beads and each is set by hand - an incredible amount of work given that there are literally thousands applied to the silk of the coat. It's label tells us that is was a custom tailored piece that would have been specialty ordered out of the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong, who were doing the best bead work in the world during this time period. Excellent condition Fully lined in a very fine black silk and it closes with hidden hook & eye down the front. It is fairly heavy as the bead work is very thick and extensive but it sits well when on and does not actually feel heavy when worn. Hidden, silk lined pockets at the front seams. Hand finished and hand beaded. Light padding in each shoulder under the lining Shoulders: 16.5" Sleeves: 19" Bust: 20" flat across the back from side seam to side seam Waist: 20" flat across the back from side to side Hips: 23" flat across the back from side to side Length: 38" from neck to hem Modern Sizing equivalent: MED-LRG This garment has been professionally cleaned, pressed and is odor free. Thoroughly checked over before shipping, it will be ready to wear upon arrival
