1910s Cotton Net Dress with Irish crochet and lace trim

About

This is a sheer cotton net overdress from the 1910s, most likely dating from 1915-17. The hand made lace collar and ‘bib’ front are reminiscent of the period around 1915, while the layers around the bottom suggest a date just prior to World War I. The dress is beautiful and quite elegant. In the 1910s it would have been worn over several other layers, perhaps to go visiting in the summer or for walking in the park. Today, it could be worn over a short slip dress in the summer, or over a long gown for an evening event. Great cotton net for a beach wedding.
