Courrèges numbered lime green and ivory wool dress. circa 1965
About the Item
Having served a lengthy apprenticeship under Balenciaga, André Courrèges launched his own label in 1961.
He stunned the fashion world with his 1965 collection of super-modern trouser suits, mini-dresses with skirts cut four inches above the knee, and his signature flat white boots with cut-off toes.
Courrèges’ early collections were often made of sculptural pieces constructed in his favourite stiff, wool gabardine fabric and in acid bright colours .
This dress is a rare example of Courrèges’ early designs.
Constructed with a wool gabardine textile and featuring acid green hues, the dress has a V-neckline and half sleeves decorated with quilted ivory wool.
The flat patch pockets are embellished with ivory flaps at the hipline.
Fastening is with a series of lucite buttons on a quilted inset. There is a half belt closing with one white lucite button.
The dress is fully lined with a silk-line synthetic material.
