1970's Thea Porter Cut-Velvet & Pleated-Chiffon Black Maxi Dress

Buyer Protection Guaranteed

Gorgeous early "Thea Porter" gown fashioned in art-nouveau floral cut silk-velvet and crepe-chiffon. The knife-pleated chiffon is set in inverted insets from the waist to the bottom hem. When you move, the yards of fabric create stunning fluidity and lavishness. The same knife-pleating is done on each wide, flowing sleeve. I love the low-cut plunge bodice complete with faceted jet-black beads and an exaggerated "femme fatale" collar. During the early 1970's, her clothing attracted many celebrity customers who enjoyed wearing her erotic, yet comfortable, creations whose secret was to conceal rather than reveal. She admits her fashions were created in that particular style as she had always felt very envious of Arab women because they can hide behind their clothes, it is a very protected and secure way to feel. Admitting that some of her creations were far removed from anything an Arab woman would wear she said that she felt, "It's important that the end result should be my own romantic fantasies." This dress is truly breathtaking, museum quality and very rare.
