Fred Perlberg 1940s Black and Gold Evening Dress with Matching Gloves

About the Item

This arresting Fred Perlberg late 1940s or early 1950s black chiffon evening dress with matching gloves is designed to turn heads on the dance floor. Part of its 'creator's lovingly titled range of party and dance dresses "Dance Originals", the emphasis on movement and show stopping glamour is evident in this piece. Thin spaghetti straps support a dramatic horizontal neckline , which is softened by chiffon arranged attractively over the bust line in a cross-over fashion. The bodice is corseted to accentuate the fairytale waistline, which details a simple piped seam before falling away dramatically into the floor sweeping skirt. The high-waisted skirt is fully lined, with a full-circle chiffon overlay. The fabric features a panel of gold sequin embellishment that comes into play just above the knee and runs parallel to the hem. There is a concealed zip fastening to the left of the bodice with a hook and eye closure. The sheer chiffon gloves that accompany the gown are stylishly designed to cover the back of the hand, leaving the fingers exposed. They fold over at the wrist in a pirate style cuff, embellished with a gold sequin trim. The dress is in wonderful condition with no notable flaws. A generous length and would suit a taller silhouette; best fit for a US size 0-2, UK size 6.

Gianni Versace was an influential Italian fashion designer who founded the Versace brand. In the fall of 1997, he presented his couture collection in Paris, which was widely acclaimed for its opulent fabrics, bold prints, and intricate detailing. The collection featured several notable pieces, such as a black evening gown with a plunging neckline and a gold-encrusted jacket. However, just a few days later, on July 15th, 1997, Gianni was tragically murdered outside his Miami Beach home. Despite his untimely death, his contributions to the world of fashion continue to be celebrated, and his legacy remains an inspiration too many. This collection is iconic as it’s the final collection before his passing. The collection very much showed a new direction for the house. Which was heading away from the bombshell curves and souped-up sex appeal that the house previously focussed on. But took more Inspirations to the new wave John Galliano and Mcqueen were leading.
