Louis Feraud visual illusion dress
Throughout his career, which started in the 1950s, Louis Feraud dressed very chic women and actresses, including Ingrid Bergman and Elisabeth Taylor.
Unlike Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior, Feraud did not seem to want the personal celebrity status enjoyed by these designers.
For this reason he is still under the radar in the US. The fashion crowd however know what he is about.
A talented artist who was inspired by the art of other cultures that influenced his fashion design as well. He maintained a leading position as a fashion designer of the world until his death in 1999.
He created costumes in the 1980s for films and TV series including Dynasty and Dallas.
Feraud’s fashion designs of this era symbolise the zeitgeist of the decade that worshipped status symbols and courted conspicuous dressing.
This piece by the designer is unique and special not just because it shows the exquisite juxtaposition of its geometric patterns. But it’s also a one of the kind piece by Louis Feraud. This is an important and valuable piece of fashion history. Echoes of which we can see in the iconic black and white optical suit Issey Miyake designed later in the 80’s for David Bowie.
This eye catching dress is constructed from a jersey crepe material. It features long cotton sleeves printed with black geometric motifs. The round cuffs are slightly puffed. The geometric print is combined to form a fantastic structure Waist , neck and bodice are moulded with elegance and beauty. A large Bakélite button adorned the waist. The skirt is long pleated with classic artistic pleats.
