Classic Nina Ricci designs highlight an aura of romanticism and a feminine mystique that is exuded through the particular silhouettes and soft fabrics. Pushing the envelope, the Fall 2006 collection took this staple aesthetic and blended it with a various takes on prep style. While the collection was a departure from quintessential Ricci style, it nonetheless showcased a creative use of textiles that captured the essence of the house.
This sleeveless silk maxi dress bears a simple columnar silhouette that is elevated by its accents. An ivory fabric that is decorated with marbled swirls of amethyst, umber, ultramarine blue, and gold ochre travel across the dress expressing a natural yet surreal characteristic. At the bust, swags sweep upward to a lace-inset neckline that emphasizes a sensual undertone. Bands of black create the straps while complimenting the swirls of black on the dress. At a full maxi length, this dress offers a negligée vibe packaged in a classy style. It can be seen in the imaged above as look #21 from that season’s runway.
Fully lined in a solid ivory silk with a second underlayer of silk damask, this dress is effortlessly light and easy to wear.
