About

This is a beautiful black velvet and fringe gown from the 1920s. The simplicity of the 1920s drop-waist allowed designers to play with many forms of extravagant embellishment without overwhelming the wearer, and this gown is a perfect example. The body of the dress is made of luxurious silk velvet, which gives way at the front hipline to rows of individually applied swinging silk fringe over a bejeweled cream base. The velvet drapes in luscious folds down to a soft V-shaped hem at the back, which mirrors the deep V of the neckline above. This neckline dips down to mid-bust in front and even deeper - to well below the shoulder blades - in back, providing a striking element of the risqué, which is balanced and made elegant by the boxy 1920s silhouette. Further embellishment is added in silver around the neckline, above the fringe, and in the form of floral outlines on the front of the torso rendered in crystals. With its combination of sumptuous fabric, jazzy fringe, and glimmering embellishment, this gown is the perfect Roaring Twenties party dress, and will bring that 1920s flair to any modern occasion.
