Vintage 1960's Helen Rose Couture Fully-Beaded Blush Pink Silk Hourglass Dress

About the Item

Breathtaking and incredibly rare Helen Rose designer couture blush-pink beaded cocktail dress dating back to the early 1960's Old Hollywood era. Helen Rose won two Academy Awards for Best Costume Design: for "The Bad and the Beautiful" in 1952 and for "I'll Cry Tomorrow" in 1955. She was nominated a further eight times and was well-known for designing famous iconic looks of the stars of this era. She designed the wedding dress of Grace Kelly when she married Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956. She also designed clothing for Elizabeth Taylor in the movies Father of the Bride and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof as well as Elizabeth Taylor's bridal gown when she married Conrad Nicky Hilton. Helen Rose, like Edith Head and Irene Lentz, was one of the rare women who became chief costume designer for a major film studio. Her style was elegant and understated but still extremely innovative. This sparkling museum quality dress is a perfect example of her pure genius. The fabric itself is a masterpiece; triple layered blush pink silk chiffon that has been embellished by hand with elegant glass-beads, large crystals, faux pink pearls in the most gorgeous floral motif. Such dazzling 3-dimensional texture! The sculpted low v-neck front and back bodice really compliment the elaborate fabrication. I adore the hourglass nipped waist cocktail silhouette which Helen Rose did so well. Helen's couture line existed from 1957-1971. In 1957, the price for her retail version of the Liz Taylor "Cat" short chiffon dress was $250. Just imagine the original price of a beaded showstopper of this caliber! This is an opportunity to experience the luxury and glamour that was reserved for filmland's most famous women. An extremely special vintage look that is perfect of any upcoming modern wedding or red carpet event. We added many pictures so you can really understand this masterful achievement. Measurements Bust: 32-33 inches Waist: 25 inches Hips: up to 35 inches Total Length: 40 inches This Helen Rose designer dress is in excellent condition with no rips, stains or holes. Presents beautifully. Perfectly working back hand set back-zipper and inner waist-stay. Garment is fully lined in matching pink silk. Highly wearable and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.

1920's Martha Weathered Couture Pastel Silk Rosettes Filet Lace Flapper Dress
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
A breathtaking museum quality bridal dance dress dating back to the mid-1920's. Two layers are cleverly designed to complement each other; a fine filet-lace outer layer with a foliate design over an ecru silk-crepe slip layer embroidered with pastel silk-ribbon rosettes. The rosettes are positioned under the filet-lace design so that they appear to be the blooms of the foliate in the lace! The overall effect is quite spectacular, and the dress has survived beautifully over the years. A small designer label in the interior reading "Weathered Misses Shop Chicago", which was the one shop in Chicago able to import French couture. The original owner of the garment said the shop was able to do this by selecting the couture designs overseas. After making their selections, the patterns and materials would be shipped over for fabrication in their own workrooms, allowed them to sidestep the hefty import tax on already completed couture models. The design and construction are identity to Callot Soeurs aesthetic who was known for working with wealth American clients. A rare piece of ethereal fashion history that will become a favorite in your collection. Measurements Bust: 32-33 inches Waist: 28 inches Hips: 40 inches Total Length: 44 inches This Callot Soeurs attributed dress from Martha Weathered...

Vintage 1940's Saks Fifth Avenue Creme Beaded Chiffon One-Shoulder Bridal Gown
By Saks Fifth Avenue
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
Ethereal late 1940's Saks Fifth Avenue creme goddess gown from the Old Hollywood era of glamour. This stunning silk-chiffon garment has so much couture detail, you can tell it was made with expert devotion. The boned sweetheart plunge bodice is hand-pleated and hand-stitched into place with a unique asymmetric one-shoulder draped train. As pictured, there are a few different ways you can style the sash. Sparkling white glass-beads and sequins, in a gorgeous vine motif, cascade down the front. I love the hourglass nipped-waist which flows into a beautiful full sweep. Truly, this gown would have taken days to finish. A pure work of art and a study in dressmaking technique which reminds me of the famous Jean Desses. Breathtaking and timeless; I totally imagine this gliding down the red carpet!
