Vintage Ronald Amey Peach Knit and Satin Mod Maxi Dress 1960s

About the Item

Ronald Amey peach wool knit gown with pieced satin bodice front and neck yoke from the 1960s. This beautiful dress has a Mod influenced design. The dress is beautifully constructed. In the day wool was regularly used for day and evening garments because central heating in many places was nonexistent or not reliable. This dress is a classic shape with a fitted bodice and the most amazing sleeves, a style that was designed by and unique to Ronald Amey. The selves have deep 10 button and loop closure cuffs, at the elbow the fabric creates a wing effect as seen from the back. The cuffs and trims are done in satin, the buttons are square cut crystal. The wide band waist is satin, the flared maxi skirt has on seam side pockets, the back has an inverted pleat from the waist to the hem. The dress closes at the back with a zipper and hooks and eyes at the neck back. The bodice is lined in off white silk, the sleeves are unlined. The skirt is also lined in off white silk. In very good condition and wearable, there are some minor abrasions to the satin at the cuff and bodice seen in bright light. There is a light pale orange spot on one sleeve, possibly rust, with two loose threads in the knit, please ask for close up photos if you are interested. There are a couple of tiny light marks one on the bodice (wool) one on the skirt they are difficult to see. We did not have this dress dry cleaned as it involved removing 20 buttons and the dress is by all appearances clean and was stored in an air conditioned dressing room. We have taken this into consideration in the pricing. This is an amazing example of Ronald Amey's dressmaking skill. In excellent wearable condition. All our clothing is inspected for condition and is ready to wear. Any condition issues will be noted. For visual comparison our mannequin is a size 4.
