About the Item
Walter Van Beirendonck was born in Brecht, Belgium on April 2, 1957. He studied fashion at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium (another place I would like to visit). He is part of the legendary "Antwerp Six" which includes Dirk Van Saene, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Bikkembergs, Ann Demeulemeester, and Marina Yee. His influences were always art and music and his first big break was during London Fashion Week in 1987 with the "Antwerp Six".
Walter's carrer starts as he in charge of designing for Oke sportswear from 1977-1980. The enigma himself has several works for Gianfranco Ferre till 1992, while working with his eponymous label. Walter Van Beirendonck is renowned for his witty, cyberpunk, and pop art show. As for his innovation in exhibiting fashion shows, he the first designer to use the Internet and Cd's to showcase his designs. The main source of inspirations that are being drawed in his runways until modern day are visual arts, literature, nature, and ethnic influences.
