Spectacular 1940s Lilli Ann Wiggle Dress
A real treat - this is a very very rare and early Lilli Ann fitted wiggle dress that the label dates to the late 1940s. Its one of her earliest labels and would have been made while she was still based out of San Fransisco. Lilli Ann suits are prized for their immaculate cuts and construction methods and innovative designs and if they are hard to find in mint condition - to have a dress from her is like the holy grail! And it's a beauty too! A textured red fabric (I believe its a silk and wool blend) has a hue a bit difficult to pin down as far as the color. It has the slightest tinge of orange to it but is definitely a red. Its cut to fit! The skirt is straight and seamed - the hips have a detail worked and raped into the fabric to look like pockets but are only there for decoration. The bodice is a masterpiece of construction - lightly boned through the sides and seamed to create a shape for the bust. Each pretty shoulder strap has a piping of paste rhinestones running downs its middle and a bow sits at the end of each - also highlighted with rhinestones. A sweetheart neckline and in mint condition!
Bust: 17" from side seam to side seam
Waist: 13" from side seam to side seam, un-stretched
Hips: 19" from side seam to side seam
Bodice: 16" from top of shoulder strap to waist seam
Skirt length: 30" from waist seam to bottom hem
The bodice is unlined while the skirt is half lined. All edges are pink sheared or finished with dressmakers ribbon. It closes with a back painted metal zipper. Pictures do not come close to doing this one justice. It should be dry cleaned when cleaned again in the future.
