Gaining commercial success in the 1940s, Mollie Parnis was an early American designer who was greatly revered for her chic yet conservative looks as well as one of the earliest American designers to sell her garments under her own label. Crack open a 1970s - era Vogue or Harper’s and you’ll surely see a fashion spread featuring garments by Mollie Parnis. From that period, this exquisitely tailored crop top, bralette, and maxi skirt set is done in an unlisted fabric that feels like a cotton voile blend. The material is soft, light, and airy, with a bit of crispness to hold its shape. The top and skirt feature a striking print of red, mint, brown, purple, emerald green, light blue and navy stripes on a mustard yellow ground, evoking the retro glam of the seventies. The crop top begins with a flattering bateau neckline and short dolman sleeves. The high-low hem grazes the rib cage at the front of the bodice for a crisp, modern look, creating a revealing space between the top and the skirt.
