About the Item
As French couture made by Martin Grant at his Paris atelier in the Marais in the mid-1990s, this pale grey plaid lightweight-wool slit-skirt suit has many hand-tailored elements like a Christian-Dior original from 1947 that create a curvaceous hourglass silhouette. On the fully-lined jacket these include eight additional curvilinear seams for a perfectly contoured cinched waist with flared ruffled peplum-like draping hem accented with faux-pocket flaps; topstitching around the lapels and oversized shawl collar; horizontal-seamed sleeves in front with curvilinear seams in back (to avoid wrinkling); and hand-dyed fabric buttons in a darker plaid.
The fitted skirt features unique asymmetrical curvilinear front seams at the nipped top, with the longer one turning into the single slit at the right knee. The symmetrical curvilinear back seams contour the butt on both sides of the centered invisible zipper.
Meant to be tight fitting, this small-sized made-to-measure skirt suit will look best on a U.S.-size 2 or a 4 with a thin waist.
