Mangone Black Deco Cutout Seam WWII Pencil Suit - M, 1940s

About the Item

A Hindenburg survivor, Philip Mangone was born into a family of Italian tailors and favored the sleek, military silhouettes he employed while designing WAC uniforms during WWII. With its strong shoulders and slim skirt, this suit is demonstrative of Mangone’s military influences but remains feminine through the use of decorative seam details on the jacket front. The ingenious round cutouts at the jacket hips actually double as shallow pockets! *From the personal collection of department store heiress Estela Jácome Pencil suit of heavyweight textured wool crêpe. Jacket features lightly padded, puffed shoulders, front and rear full princess seams and rounded notch collar; front jacket seam detail scrolls in arabesque curves from underarms to hips, featuring cutout circles that double as shallow pockets at each hip. 4-button front closure; fully lined in silk crêpe.
