One of a kind "Objet de vertu “Elephant” for candle and lighter, Bronze and Malachite, Napoleon III- France Exquisite and refined candle holder or censer made in France in the mid-19th century. This delicate elephant has been made in bronze, with gilt bronze details, and rests on a rectangular malachite base. The elephant, in a serene attitude, is dressed for the parade and carries the candle holder itself with its trunk. The trunk facing upwards is always a sign of good luck. On the litter that appears on the pachyderm's back, an eloquent monkey appears. The figure of the primate is the handle for the small box. Orientalizing fashion was very present in 19th century France, a multitude of varied objects were made to decorate rooms in response to the demand of the nobility. The objects of virtue...
