Japan Antique Big Bronze shishi koma-inu Taisho, 1915

About

From our recent Japanese Acquistions Travels. Japanese fine one hundred plus year old cast bronze shishi koma-inu, two parts, signed on bottom, fine condition. Considered auspicious symbols of wealth, status, and good fortune; foo dogs—commonly referred to as shishi or koma-inu in Japan—are often seen guarding shrines, straddling the doorways of shops, and protecting public buildings. The male is almost always depicted with a spherical globe under-foot, symbolizing dominion over the world. These mythical effigies have deep religious and social symbolism and can be seen in countries across Asia. Our guardian made from cast bronze, has excellent details and a wonderful patina that would place it, circa 1915. It is signed on bottom. Dimensions: 16.5 inches high and 32 inches wide and 8.5 inches deep Age: dates solidly in the Taisho period, 1915 Quality: fine condition Provenance: old Takayama collection Lifetime guarantee of authenticity: All of our Asian works of art come with our lifetime authenticity guarantee.
