19th Century Red and Black Chinese Armoire with Calligraphy and Brass Hardware

About the Item

A red and black armoire with calligraphy and brass hardware from 1800s, China. This Chinese armoire is made of red and black painted wood with brass hardware, and its doors are adorned by beautiful calligraphy. This armoire displays a rectangular shape with an overhanging top. Its front legs are supported by two wavy carved planks. The bottom section of this cabinet features two square doors with brass hinges and lock, surmounted by three drawers with brass bail handles. The upper section showcases two tall doors with black painted panels with gold colored Chinese calligraphy. These doors open thanks to a simple brass lockset on narrow brass plates. Inside the black painted interior features two shelves and two hidden drawers. This 19th century red and black Chinese armoire with calligraphy and brass would be an exotic addition to most rooms, acting both as a decorative object and a storage cabinet.

    An extraordinary 19th century Qing dynasty 4-door vermillion cabinet with fine works of carving, painting, gilding and silvering. The solid wood construction consists of four frame members joined by tenons and mortises. The top and the main body connects through a decorative waist with carved begonias. Two center doors on dowels carved with the He-He Harmony Gods on the caps and two side doors operated by wood pegs on the frames. The top section of the doors feature three-dimensional carvings of noblewomen enjoying a garden.
