16th C set of Four Evangelist Vault Keys
About the Item
Vault keys such as these were used where the vault ribs came together, as a finishing touch. These particular ones depict the four Evangelists. The Angel for St Matthew, the Lion for St Mark, The Ox for St Luke and the Eagle for St John.
