1880s Pennsylvania Railroad Company Flyer Steam Train Locomotive Bronze Bell PRR

About the Item

Rings beautifully, and moves smoothly. Gifted from the Governor of Pennsylvania, David Lawerence to the Chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh prior to the merger of the PRR to the New York Central Line in the 1960s, procured from that estate. "Served New York City-Washington, D.C./South Amboy; Philadelphia-Harrisburg; North Jersey Coast Line. The Pennsylvania Railroad, also known as the "Pennsy" was an American Class I railroad that was established in 1846 and was headquartered in Philadelphia. Named for the commonwealth it was established in, by 1882, the Pennsylvania Railroad had become the largest railroad (by traffic and revenue), the largest transportation enterprise, and the largest corporation in the world. Its budget was second only to the U.S. government." wikipedia
