First Quarter of 19th Century Load Bearing Columns from Colonial Mansion

About

Pair of 1820s solid teak wood load bearing columns with solid teak wood crowns supported on hand-carved sandstone bases. These columns once carried a two storied colonial mansion. Since these columns supported the slanting roof of the front porch these columns were partially exposed to the elements. To prevent the wooden pillars standing on wet floors and rotting, sand stone bases were used to support the pillars. Teak wood is one of the few woods that can carry heavy loads, resist insects and stay stabile. Pair. One shown and the other is identical to the one shown. Vintage architectural pieces like these columns are difficult to find. Measure: Height 107", depth 16", width 16". Diameter of the wood pillars 10.5".
