  • 17th Century French Oak Entry Doors from a Hotel Particulier, Aix-En-Provence
    Located in Dallas, TX
Hand-crafted in the late 1600s in France, this stunning pair of entry doors once graced a hotel particulier in Aix-en-Provence, in the South of France. A hotel particulier is not a hotel in today’s sense of the word, but rather it is a large, private residence, typically with an interior courtyard. It is derived from the Old French word hostel and particulier, which means “private”. There are numerous examples in larger cities in France, such as Paris, Bordeaux, and Aix-en-Provence. The doors were crafted out of local French oak wood. Both doors have been carved with the same details and adorned with two tiers of iron nailheads, one at the very top, and one along the top of the bottom panel. These iron nails secure the long horizontal iron hinge straps on the backs of the doors The bottom portion of the doors consists of a large carved lozenge that consists of four smaller raised lozenges. The middle panel is comprised of a vertical rectangle with an arched top and thick layers of molding that form a fantastic architrave. A significantly thinner molding graces the uppermost panel, which also has been carved as a rectangle (horizontally orientated) with a sinuous bottom. Expertly restored for over 3 months by a talented French ebeniste, the doors combine French history with beautiful functionality (photos of pre-restoration available upon request). Large French entry doors...

  • Pair of Circa 1750 Walnut Wood Entry Doors from Spain
    Located in Dallas, TX
Spanish furniture and architecturals of the 18th century, such as this pair of walnut wood entry doors, were highly influenced by French stylings. Hand-carved circa 1750, the doors feature deep, sinuous moldings, reminiscent of the curvaceous motifs seen during the reign of Louis XV. The amazing doors have a rich brown patina that accentuates the charm of the carvings, which are also enhanced by the visible screws used to join the pieces of walnut wood. Comprised of five carved panels per door, each carving is similar: a rough rectangle with rounded ends and barbed counter curves. The three smaller panels are orientated horizontally, surrounding the two larger and vertically arranged panels. A thickly scrolled bronze pull can be seen on each door, also functioning as door knockers (the door on the right has commensurate wear from the pull striking the wood). Because these Spanish entry doors...

  • Pair of Tall 19th Century Chapel Doors from Belgium
    Located in Dallas, TX
Hand-carved in Belgium, circa 1860, this 11 foot tall pair of doors (132.88 inches) were recently salvaged from a Belgian chapel. They can be considered of the Gothic style, which is sometimes referred to as “pointed architecture”, because of the prevalence of pointed arches in buildings. Each door is composed of six vertical planks constructed with mortise and tenon joinery. All planks have been adorned with iron pyramid protuberances, placed in a repeating pattern. The planks and iron retain their white paint, now naturally weathered over the years, perfect for those who appreciate original condition. At over 11 feet tall, these 19th century chapel doors...
