About the Item
With its elegant, handcrafted scrollwork and ornate details, this antique wrought iron gate is a beautiful addition a traditional garden. It has stood the test of time for more than 130 years, made by a talented 19th century blacksmith. It has a recent paint finish and has been fitted with a new latch and hinges, making it ready to hang in your gateway, courtyard or garden. This garden gate is an ideal size for an opening of approximately 113 cm (44.49 in).
Wrought Iron Garden Gate
Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
