Large 18th Century French Fireback / Backsplash with Pillars and Fleurs de Lys
About the Item
18th century French Louis XIV fireback with pillars, a cupid and Fleurs de Lys. The Fleurs de Lys (lilies) symbolize purity, royalty and aristocracy throughout Europe. The pillars stand for the club of Hercules and symbolize strength and the unknown. The date of production, 1731, is also cast in the fireback.
The fireback is made of cast iron and has a black / pewter patina. The fireback is in a good condition and does not have cracks.
