Large and Unusual Antique Late Victorian Carved Oak Fireplace Surround
About the Item
Large and unusual antique late Victorian carved oak fireplace surround in the 18th century manner with deeply carved egg and dart molded slender legs with dog leg moldings supporting a deep frieze with further egg and dart and fluted moldings flanking a large and extremely shapely carved central plaque depicting a pair of winged lions holding an unadorned shield and ribbon amongst acanthus scrolls. The whole below a deep shelf carved in a geometric pattern of repeating octagons each centered with a stylized flower. A very handsome and imposing chimneypiece .
