"Le Capucin" Antique French Rotisserie Spit

About the Item

An ornate and functional 19th century French cast iron clockwork rotisserie for the famous Le Capucin brand. Comprising a wind-up jack raised on four claw feet with a handle, a winding key, cast iron tripod spit Stand with 7 spit hooks and a ring on top and a single steel spit with adjustable spithook. In great working condition. The purpose of these antique spit jacks is to turn spits of roasting meat before a fire without the need of anyone doing it by hand. Spit jacks like this one turned a horizontal spit at hearth level, and when its bell rang, the Cook would know it was time to rewind the spring. Great holiday gift piece for chefs.
