19th Century French Empire Style Mantel in Statuary and Brass

About the Item

A 19th century Empire style French mantel of outstanding quality. In flawless Italian statuary marble with very fine ormolu decoration the mantel displays a wealth of decorative detail unique in a piece of such modest dimensions. The jambs have beautifully realized female figures in bold relief supporting corner blocks decorated with stiff leaf acanthus and a fielded frieze bordered by pearl beading and decorated with repeating foliate motif. The molded mantel shelf breaks over the jambs and incorporates a tier of ormolu egg and dart molding. Opening dimensions: 33 3/4" W x 31 1/4" H.
