19th Century Norwegian Marble Corbel Fireplace Surround in the Georgian Manner
About the Item
A rare 19th century Corbeled fireplace surround in the Georgian manner carved from Breche Rossa Norvegia marble (Norway)
A bullnose top shelf with a secondary under shelf, sits above an unadorned frieze, flanked in turn by a pair of jambs. The tall feminine legs host shallow corbels with capping and splayed adornments, below, stepped in grounds with cock bead returns and intermittent bullnose insertions, all supported on splayed foot blocks and stepped side block work.

Fire opening size: 960mm high x 825mm wide.
The width can be adjusted inwards or outwards to a maximum of 870mm.
Each leg width 190mm.

Breche Rossa Norvegia marble was mined in Fauske, Norway. This rich and tasteful marble was first quarried in 1860, and can be found in many Norwegian public buildings, Oslo city hall, Oslo courthouse, and Oslo International Airport. The marble is formed from clasps of coloured stone and is a speckled medley of crisp white, golden flecks and rose pink tones. This unique and colourful stone is all things feminine and makes for a wonderful statement piece. It’s rare to find fireplaces cut from this stone.
