Black Chinoiserie Painted Fireplace

About the Item

A highly decorative black Chinoiserie fireplace dating from the 1920s. With its straight lines and angular proportions, this impressive Japanned mahogany antique fireplace looks as at home in a 20th century townhouse as it does a more modern setting. The black lacquerwork finish is finely hand painted with a range of Chinoiserie inspired motifs and oriental scenes including figures, buildings and trees. To the bottom of the right-hand jamb, it is signed by the artist, inscribed with ‘W. E. R. Scott’. Additional Dimensions Opening height: 81 cm Opening width: 120.5 cm
