EMPIRE FIREPLACE IN WHITE CARRARA MARBLE WITH BACCHANT SCENES began 20th Century Empire style fireplace in high quality white marble, large pediment approximately 128cm x 30cm high with Bacchante scenes carved almost in miniature. Twelve putti compete for the rural area, on the right a goat is contested by five putti. Six ancient grape plants form the background. In fact, the cherubs do not have "Bacchante attitudes" but rather it seems that their main interest is the harvest of grapes which is concentrated in the central area of the architrave, inside a large vat. On the left, however, there are three cherubs who appear to be eating grapes, this is the only veiled reference to the Bacchante scenes. The fireplace dates back to the "early 20th century" and was used as a model by a well-known sculptor from Pietra Santino.
