About the Item
A rare and grand Scottish example of a early 19th century Georgian Edinburgh’s New Town Carved Pine & Lime wood fireplace surround.
A break front top shelf with applied corvetto cornice, below, carved egg & dart moulding to under shelf. The frieze with a central tablet displaying fruit and folate with fine carving, flanked by further carved side panels of swags and tied bell flowers, flanked in turn by tall jambs with corner capitols displaying finely carved draped linen urns topped with intertwined dolphins. Below, full length trailing flowers with ivy leaves, the interior opening is framed with further carved egg & dart moulding terminating on to splayed blocks, with further wrap around moulded side foot block work.
