Italian Renaissance Mantel

About the Item

A handsome 19th century Italian chimneypiece in the Renaissance style. Carved in Limestone the chimneypiece displays imposing proportions, standing at over seven feet tall. Pilasters with fielded panels terminate in corbels decorated with rope twist embellishment supporting a conforming paneled frieze. The latter has a central cartouche in the form of a garlanded armorial shield flanked by horizontal swags. The chimneypiece has a corniced mantel shelf carved with tiers of crisp egg and dart and bead and reel. Condition is good overall, save for some minor damages to the paneled jambs.
