A large Antique Louis XV French Rococo Carved Marble Fireplace Mantel
About the Item
A very good quality late 18th c Louis XV marble fireplace. Executed in Italian Carrara marble, with superior carvings in the Rococo taste. The serpentine shelf above a paneled frieze with an A symmetrical carved central cartouche typical of the Rococo period of carved shell, foliate, flowers and scrolled acanthus leaf. The cantered jambs with scrolled stiff acanthus at the feet, descending bell drops, continued carved acanthus and deeply scrolled with under shell corner blockings. Retaining its original decorated paneled side returns. Both Jambs and Frieze with stone backing.
