The medieval IHS monogram stands for Iesus Hominum Salvator (Jezus the Savior of Humanity) or In Hoc Signo (In this sign will you win). The pillars stand for the club of Hercules and symbolize strength.
The fireback is made of cast iron. It has a brown patina. Upon request the fireback can be made black. The fireback is in a good condition and does not have cracks.
