Gothic Mantelpiece
About the Item
This mantelpiece is a authentic Flemish Gothic fireplace surround from the early 16th century. It is made from a typical sandstone called 'Balegemse' (from the region the stone was excavated). These fireplace surrounds were always made from seperate pieces as in this one. All parts are present. The original stone floor beam (lining the actual fireplace on the floor) is also included.
Usually these types of mantels were bricked in without a beam or a wooden beam or seperate triangular stone was placed on top. As this is not present this piece can be installed with a width at choice... The widtH mentioned in dimensions is as displayed.
