Art Nouveau Period French Wrought Iron Candle Stand

About the Item

Simple clean lines but deeply complex design, brilliantly poetic if you see it, uninteresting and repetitious if you can't. Inspired by the sinuous curves of flowing flowers and contrasting geometric lines from turn of the century architecture, sculptural, asymmetrical, expressive, eloquent, stylized fanciful scrollwork, it's rustically sophisticated, brutally stylish, whimsical and elegantly aged to patina perfection. The simplistic yet majestic sculpted stand (freestanding screen) presents with magnificent bold polychome decoration, provided by remnants of the original distressed, weathered, faded chippy paint that remains, adding a profound, ever evolving creative touch and distinctive style to your home or garden, inside or outside, this beautiful, unsigned Art Nouveau folk art plant or candle stand sculpture is sure to never be forgotten. Born in France in the late 19th / early 20th century, hand-crafted, forged and painted, wonderfully executed in period, Art Nouveau taste, architectural, a geometric motif is used to create an unusual form with large open spaces, giving a light airy vibe, while fluid, flowing lines give the dynamic feel of motion, both directly in contrast to the other and to the heavy iron medium. Presenting with a pair of gracefully curved supports forming an elongated semi-circular arch, reinforced with central "X" form vertical stretcher with artfully scrolled ends that enhances the charm of the piece while increasing overall stability. Adding function, texture and dimension, three highly scalloped circular flower form iron pedestals with pie crust edge, round inset and scrolled tail hook (can be used for hanging items) extend out in various direction and staggered height, with two to one side and one facing forward appearing to float in the air. Rising on sturdy trestle base decorated with scrolls. Circa 1900 Dimensions: 43.5" High, 19.5" Wide, 12.5" Deep.
