Antique 19th Century Italian Carved Alabaster Neoclassical Urn on Pedestal 1850
About the Item
A large & substantial antique Italian Neoclassical carved alabaster urn on pedestal, circa 1850.
The urn is made of the finest variegated & veined alabaster, the campagna shaped urn with a pronounced 'rope twist' rim and a garland of carved acanthus leaves below, the bowl of the urn is deeply carved with an arrangement of flowers and foliate. The base of the urn having a cuff of caved acanthus with an inverted smaller cuff below and is raised on a socle base. The urn stands on a substantial circular column shaped pedestal, with a stepped octagonal base. The pedestal & column are in good condition & disassemble into eight parts for ease of movement.
Provenance; From a Grand Hall in Warwickshire UK, this urn & pedestal had been displayed in the 19th century Orangery.
